about

Having sorted through hundreds of cassette tapes that survived the fire of January 2018, I thought I should archive some of these documents for posterity. Perhaps some are worth sharing. A few things took me by surprise, some ideas may be worth revisiting. I wish I could go back in time and tweak some things! But things are just as they are, and these recordings are for amusement purposes only.

In November, 1984 I moved into a tiny studio apartment at 24th and 1st Ave. in South Minneapolis. I was using two cassette decks and bouncing back and forth through a cheap mixer. Sound on sound, I believe it's called -- I had no idea what I was doing!

Some stuff: A cheap Bogen 4 channel mixer I found at Jim Berns Music in Bloomington, MN, the same place I got my trusty (and heavy) '69 Les Paul Professional (the precursor to the ”Recording" model). Also had a light blue Fender Musicmaster guitar, a Sigma acoustic, a borrowed bass, and the Electro-Harmonix Rhythm Machine figured prominently here!
